The ERC or LMC (Employee Relations Committee or Labour Managment Committee) meets three times a year with the option of having an emergency meeting if situations arise. The ERC is an elected committee comprised of three members from the union. Typically when they meet they will meet with three or four members of managment - the superintendant of special education, the principal of special education, the human resources manager and the human resources assistant. From time to time other members from either side or from outside agencies may be brought into meetings for points of clarification or information.
The aim of the ERC is to bring issues forward from both sides that are anticipated to be troublesome, or have been brought forth as issues that need to be dealt with. The goal is to work together with the board in order to come to a solution to these potential problems. Many issues can be brought forth at an ERC to look for solutions before it becomes a crisis or grievance situation.
